Meet the Exec!

Get to know the members who are running the club and learn about their WUSBC stories!

Deep Chauhan
President

Hi! My name is Deep and I’m a fourth-year chemistry student from London. I’ll be at most of the Wednesday sessions and the tournaments. Even though I might not seem like I talk a lot if you have any questions for me feel free to approach me with anything. My play style can be described as all-out attack which does land me in a bit of trouble sometimes, but it always makes games very interesting. Having been part of the club for 2 years and having been on the exec for a year already, snooker was one of the most welcoming clubs on campus with its members and exec being some of the friendliest people at the uni. I hope to see you around the campus crucible so we can welcome you to the club as well.

Paaras Padhiar
Treasurer and League Secretary

Hello! My name is Paaras and I’m a fourth year Maths student. I will be the treasurer for 2020/21. I joined the club and first started playing snooker last year. I couldn’t play that well at all but having participated in most Wednesday sessions and tournaments I’ve been slowly improving through the help of our excellent family - so much so that I’ve been able to beat our top players in the club on rare occasions! If you see me around the club, feel free to approach me to ask questions or for a friendly snooker match. I look forward to seeing you on the baize!

Joseph Raggett
Events Secretary

Hello! My name is Joseph, I am a second year engineering student at Warwick. I’ll be your event secretary for this year.  I am a mediocre snooker player who struggles to pot and have a fondness for billiards. Learnt how to properly hold a cue last year after playing pool like a drunk for two years. WUSBC is a very welcoming and friendly club, so if you see me around the snooker room feel free to ask me for frame. I look forward to seeing you all in the snooker room.

Conor Walthall
Club captain

Hi everyone! My name is Conor, I’m a fourth year biologist from Stoke-On-Trent and I’ll be your club captain for this year. I first got into snooker when my dad would play in the local district league when I was young, but I wasn’t tall or old enough to play on a full size table properly so I perfected my craft (rather badly) on a pool table. However, upon getting to university I hadn’t picked up a cue in about 10 years and I could barely remember the rules! The way I play may appear to the naked eye that I know what I’m doing but trust me, I have no idea what I’m doing most of the time. Despite that, I enjoy a good snooker and an enticing long pot. All the cueists in the club are a friendly and welcoming bunch, even if they look like they are concentrating on a tough shot! My biggest piece of advice when joining is to not be afraid to ask people in the club for a game of snooker when you come in! Odds are they will gladly oblige, and it is a great way to get some practice in. WUSBC is a fantastic club with brilliant members, it’s a very relaxed atmosphere so don’t fret if you think everyone who plays snooker wears waistcoats and plays in pure silence, I can assure you it is very much not like that. Come along, get stuck in, and I hope to be challenging you to a frame on the baize soon!

Regina Szokodi
Vice President and Marketing Officer

Hi there. My name is Regina, and I study Physics with Astrophysics at Warwick. I’ll be going into my second year, and I’ve been a member of this awesome club since the start of my first year. One day I want to be known for my ground-breaking research in astrophysics but I won’t go into too much detail because chances are, you wouldn’t understand. I’d also like to earn a bit of fame in drawing and snooker.

How did I get into snooker I hear you ask? Well, it all started with me playing pool. Then one day my dad was watching a snooker match on tv, and I joined in. He then got me a cue ball from an exhibition he went to, signed by Trump and Higgins. From there onwards I’ve been loving the sport and have played it many times.

Being a woman (and the first female exec member in the club as far as I know!) in the sport makes me feel pretty special rather than isolated (though I still went and asked whether the club was men’s only because I was a little scared by not seeing a single female ._.). So yeah, I proudly take the role of Vice President and Marketing Officer!

I’m looking forward to meeting some new players, be it beginner or pro!
